Juhatuse teated: ES90 special event stations
Posted on es5mc
"The Estonian Radio Amateurs Union (ERAU) is glad to announce about activating special event stations with prefixes ES90 from February 1st. The special prefix is introduced to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Estonian Republic and the main part of the activity will be carried out during the whole month.
It was on the 24th of February 1918 when Estonia declared itself independent, though due to war the actual independence was only achieved in 1920 after peace negotiations with Soviet Russia ended successfully. The first independence period of the country lasted for 20 years, then a "revolution" was staged by Stalin's regime (1940) and the three Baltic states were "joined" to Soviet Union. After World War II the Soviet occupation continued for almost 50 years, it was only in 1991 that Estonia (together with Latvia and Lithuania) got another historical chance to re-gain our independence - and we used this opportunity! The year 2008 has been announced as an "anniversary year" for the whole country, also ES-hams are glad to contribute in our own way...
There will be 26 special event stations activated - ES90 calls with a one letter suffix from A-Z (e.g. ES90A) - and they represent different regions/towns of Estonia. The basic activity will be concentrated to February, but some stations will also be active later, e.g. in bigger international contests etc. Probably a special sticker for working X number of different ES90 calls will be issued to the existing "Estonia Award" - but this info will follow a bit later. Anyway, it would be wise to hunt for different ES90-calls on the air!
A special QSL-card will also be printed for this case - it will be financed by the Anniversary Committee Fund and the cards will be sent out after the activity period (but please do not expect an immediate QSL in March, it will take a bit more time...).
CU working with many ES90-stations in February!
